Supplier Development Starts With Creativity

If you missed the write-up about a survey on supplier development taken by Purchasing magazine (May 21, 1998), it may be because there wasn't much to report. They were hoping, as we would, to discover a growing movement within the procurement ranks of supporting real supplier development activities. Instead they found a lot of claims of activity (2/3 of the respondents say they do supplier development), but very little real work in the area. Part of the problem appears to be simply perception of what constitutes development activities.
