The traditional 'career ladder' in organizations is disappearing, and the world of work (WOW) is becoming more complicated and unpredictable as we move further into the millennium. Additionally, a competitive and uncertain global economy has left organizations allocating fewer resources to employees' career development. Today's professionals need to be ever-vigilant about proactively managing their own careers throughout their work-life cycle. Most of us will find ourselves navigating a 'career lattice' over a period of decades. This requires an understanding of job market trends today and in the future as well as a clear vision of where our own 'value proposition' intersects with the needs in the world of work. This session will give a brief overview of some of these trends, talk about the career lattice framework, and share some practical counsel on how to proactively manage one's career across the decades in a way that is economically viable and personally fulfilling.
